“Here to insult my talents again, wench?”
“Can’t insult what’s not there. All your tongue is good for is telling lies.”

“Can’t insult what’s not there. All your tongue is good for is telling lies.”
“Wrong. Those who are in my service are given all they wish for and more. I would never cheapen the sacrifice of giving one’s soul to me by pretending to have talents that I truly do not.
I am many evil things. But I am a good lover.”
The damning words, “Prove it,” slip out of her mouth before she can really stop them. So she tosses her hair back and adds boldly, “You’re a liar, Pyrite. I’ve never heard a truth come out of your mouth.”
He arched a brow at her. “What makes you think I feel the need to prove anything to you? Particularly after you were so quick to judge me.”
“See, that’s exactly what I mean. You’re /so/ sure of yourself, but you don’t provide any proof. I nicknamed you Fool’s Gold for a reason, you know. /I/ think you won’t take the dare because you can’t. You know you’d fail, and you just can’t bear for some /girl/ to be proven right about you. Especially about something so very easy, after all. All you’re really good at is words.”

She shrugged. “I’ve seen worse. That was clean compared to high school. Actual betting and all that.” She uncrossed her arms and took a few steps, peering in the direction of the fleeing guy. “I have to admit, I’ve never seen anyone run away quite that fast.” Turning her gaze on Gage, she lifted an eyebrow. “Maybe you could use my name.”
He chuckled at that, slipping the cash in his jacket pocket. It hadn’t exactly been a fair fight given that Gage wasn’t human…
But he had gone easy on the arrogant little fool.
“Yeah sure. What’s your name, Lass?”
“Summer. Yours?” She offered him a smile, but kept her distance all the same. She didn’t like people who assumed she couldn’t take care of herself. Maybe he meant well, but she’d give him space until he made up for it.

“Well shit. Have you ever seen someone run that fast?” he asked to the person beside him. He had just beat the man in a fist fight, and the betting money sat in the back pocket of his jeans. It wasn’t fair. He knew that. But the distraction had been well worth it.
Despite the bloodshed Gage had been a part of for all of his life, he always was able to find something to laugh at.
“You alright, Girlie? Hope that wasn’t too violent.”
She shrugged. “I’ve seen worse. That was clean compared to high school. “…Yes?”
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to disturb you … “
“Stunned. They broke the mold when they made you, didn’t they.”
“I was not made from a mold, Darling. You have my word on that.” Of course, however much good his word was worth… well, that was up to her to decide. He took great joy in stringing them along before he took their soul, after all.
“Oooh, someone’s cocky.” His incredibly intent gaze was making her a little nervous, actually. People didn’t look that hard at someone unless they wanted something. “And what’s your word worth, then, stranger?”
