Summer and Vex ~ Halloween at Carpe Noctem

“Vampire,” she accused, gently. “Or perhaps cat.” He still had hold of her, so she couldn’t reach up to touch the new mark. “Does that make me yours forever?” She pulled away a little, to catch his eyes, her own green ones dancing. “Or just yours to all Fae?”

“Maybe a little of both,” the sadomasochist admitted when she accused him, voice equally gentle. He stretched slightly, akin to a kitten, which only brought him closer to Summer. “Hm..  Politically, it only makes you mine to the Fae Community..” he told her, voice oddly contented, “Though it bonds us in quite a few ways, and that is forever.”

Blood-letting with certain species of Fae could lead to telepathy, knowing when the person’s in danger, stronger emotional attachment.. All that, and the fact that she was now Claimed by him in the Fae World. He tilted his head to catch a drop of blood that had slipped from his bite mark on his tongue, and then licked his lips as he relaxed with her.

“Obviously, I should have asked before I said anything,” Summer said, but she smiled when she said it. She reached up and ran a fingertip over his mouth, then traced the edge of his goatee. “More forgetting, please. Unless you’d care to explain?”

Tension, and then relaxation, unwound all down her limbs. Nobody else /but/ Vex had ever really been able to make her enjoy pain — like it, a little, yes, but not enjoy. Somehow she trusted Vex not to take it too far, or least to take it exactly as far as it should go. The sound Summer made trembled between a moan and a yelp. “Drawing blood there?” she managed, on a chuckle.

While most people would have stopped, or maybe even laughed, at the woman’s somewhat joking question, he took it as a challenge. Biting down a bit harder, he couldn’t stop the moan that came as the taste of blood filled his mouth. His hands clutched her shirt for a moment, shuddering, and then he slowly unlatched his mouth from her neck. Gently licking away the trail of blood, he let out a contented sigh, cravings partially satisfied.

“I — ” Her words cut short with a half-swallowed moan. ” — wouldn’t give /them/ /leave/ to mark me.” A shiver went down her spine. “Obliterate it, Vex. Overwrite it, overwrite them. I don’t want that memory.”

The Mesmer didn’t have to be told twice with that one. The moment she’d said she didn’t want the memory, he sunk his teeth into her neck. It was beyond harsh, and his arms tightened around her to keep her from squirming as he claimed her with his teeth. Somehow though, there managed to be compassion beyond the act.

Half-leaned over, elbows on knees, she shook her hair back, the red waves falling to the floor, still sliding her fingers over that mark. She could feel it, barely, a strangeness in the skin there, and the way it troubled Vex. Her gaze flicked up to him at his teasing reply, holding on his face when he sent the others away.

“I’m not shy,” Summer said, sitting up to lean into his side. “What are you thinking, you gorgeous madman?”

The Mesmer relaxed as she leaned into his side, letting her get comfortable as he murmured a reply, “Oh nothing, love..” He loved the way she’d said that, with such affection; it wasn’t often he heard things like that. Leaning into her, he took hold of her wrist and moved her hand away from her neck; pressing a slow kiss into where she’d been bitten, he murmured, “Just that I’d rather I ‘ave marked you than one of..them..” He spit the word ‘them’ out with disgust, and then nuzzled her throat in an oddly affectionate way.

“I’m not unarmed,” she said, “merely unweaponed. I don’t study martial arts for my health. I just — it’s a party, and this is your space, and your livelihood, and I didn’t want to start something you couldn’t countenance. Far less have the police down on you — there’s just too much I don’t know.” Slanting a sideways look at him, Summer added, “Is that flattery? I didn’t think you went in for that. Or is there something you want?” She ran her fingers over the faint mark on her neck, eyes sliding shut. “After all, if it had been /you/ biting me there, I think the outcome would have been rather different.”

The Mesmer couldn’t argue with her there. Martial arts were something he’d looked into during high-school, and had done him quite well despite not using them in his adult-life. As she explained her reasoning, he gave a nod, “That’s very … considerate of you, Summer.” He paused before adding, “The police ‘ave no reign ‘ere. I mean, they do, but it’s all show for the ‘umans… But you ‘ave to remember, Summer, this is Fae feeding grounds; people are bound to react towards somebody who seems ‘uman.”

“Flattery ‘as been very kind to me in the past,” Vex joked when she asked him that, shrugging his shoulders with a quirked smile in her direction. The mark on her neck, the sight of it, upset the Mesmer, but he kept it in his head; it just bothered him to see somebody he’d started to think of as his in the Fae Community marked up by another. “Hmm.. I may just ‘ave to find out,” he mused at her words, slipping closer to her on the couch. Glancing at the others in the lounge, he clapped his hands together, claiming their attention, “Get on out, kiddies. Free drinks downstairs.” Once the room was empty of anyone else, Vex slipped his arm around the girl with a chuckle, “But any’ow…”

Throwing herself into the leather beside him, Summer gave a prolonged shudder. “Look, I know they’re your people and all, but that kind of thing is why the Unseelie have a bad rep. Did nobody ever tell them that? I feel like a gnat that somehow escaped the spider’s web. Or possibly a mouse getting away from the Cheshire cat.” She put her face in her hands for a moment.

“Should’ve just fucking smacked one of them to begin with.” Lifting a booted foot, she inspected it. “Maybe I’ll wear spike heels next time. That’ll make an impression. What do you think, Vex? Would I look okay in spike heels?”

The Mesmer let out a heavy sigh at her words, though he couldn’t blame her for them. “I know, m’dear, but not every Dark Fae is the same either. Don’t let those bloody people get to you.. I mean, ‘ave I tried to kill you yet?” he told her with a shrug of his shoulders. Then again, most people, he would have.. but he didn’t mention that.

“That would’ve made the situation worse,” Vex muttered, seeing as it seemed like she was talking more to herself than anything. “You’d look lovely in anything, Summer, but spikes—or some kind of weapon to begin with—would probably be smart,” he admitted. Absently, his hand touched the pistol that he kept inside jacket; he was Fae, sure, but it was always nice to have some kind of back-up.. You could only mesmerize so many people at once, after all.

“I’m not unarmed,” she said, “merely unweaponed. I don’t study martial arts for my health. “I would,” she replied in the same tone, “but I don’t want to deal with the backlash. It’s /very/ tempting, though.” Her eyes glittered, as she gazed around at the Fae. “Is this how humans are normally treated, or am I a special case?” she asked them.

“If this is normal, you might want to rethink your attitudes.” A quick hand gesture threw a drift of fire in their faces, forcing them back. “We don’t all need the protection of one of yours.” Turning to Vex, she said, quite clearly, “Take me out of here, will you? I’m sure there must be more folk like you elsewhere, and I don’t want to get my costume dirty.”

The Mesmer nodded at Summer’s words. She was right, permission granted or not, there were always repercussions for these kind of things. “Very well,” he said quietly, letting her speak to the people who’d tried to assault her. They were Fae, and a nasty breed too, but they were clearly afraid of the woman, not to mention that she was paired with Vex for sides; they had every right to be afraid of this situation. They’d made a very wrong move.

Vex nodded in agreement with her request when she had turned to look at him. “Alright, love,” he agreed, taking her by the hand to lead her away from the scene. He took her towards a staircase, and then led her up the steps to an upstairs. Opening the first door, he stretched and nodded at it. “Private lounge. Very limited guests.” There were a couple Fae lounging in the area, and a couple humans that Vex knew very well. He took a seat, sprawling on the leather sofa that nobody accompanied.  “‘Ave a seat, Summer.”

“Lucky you.” Awkwardly, Summer turned away. She didn’t know what else to say to this man. She’d invited him up on a whim, and now their conversation had wandered off into strange byways and things she hated showing to anyone, let alone a stranger. Picking up the cup again, she took it into the kitchen, for lack of anything better to do.

Vex shrugged his shoulders at the woman’s words. This arrangement had been … unexpected to begin with, and now the two had very little reason to be around one another, and even less things to talk about. He watched as she went into the kitchen, and then stood, speaking as she returned to the room. “Perhaps I should take my leave, Summer. I’d ‘ate to intrude on the rest of your evening.”

With a bitter little laugh she shrugged back. “There’s so little to intrude on. You’re probably the most exciting thing to happen to me in weeks. But I’m sure you’ve got things to return to, spoilt date or not.” Forcing a more natural smile, Summer came over and laid a hand on his arm. “Come and look me up sometime. Maybe I’ll drop by your club some night, too.”

She’d been about to simply abandon control and unleash hell in six different directions when Vex took control of the situation. She slumped to the floor when the Fae released her, one hand gripping at her throat over the marks. Glancing up, through the forest of legs, she saw people spreading away from him, though a few stayed.

Getting to her feet, she came up behind Vex. “I’m fine,” she said, softly, into his ear, before looking around at the Fae still clustered close. Anger hardened the lines of her face as she let a different side of her powers show, a halo of fire rising off her hair and drifting as sparks.

The Mesmer slowly nodded, taking in the quietly spoken words of the woman who’d moved to stand behind him. He was glad that she was alright, but that didn’t mean he was pleased. His eyes blazed with fury as he watched the Fae around them, teeth set into something similar to a snarl.  Vex felt heat from where Summer stood, and so he stepped to the side to look at her, raising an eyebrow.

The halo of fire was surprising, he hadn’t noticed her elemental abilities before, but it wasn’t a bad kind of surprise. He occasionally raised an arm against a flare of the sparks, which weren’t perfectly contained, but other than that, he didn’t move to stop her. “Do what you will. The mess can be cleaned up later,” he told her with a dark tone, saying nothing more. He reached into his pocket and took out a flask of whiskey, taking a swift swig from it.

“I would,” she replied in the same tone, “but I don’t want to deal with the backlash. It’s /very/ tempting, though.” Her eyes glittered, as she gazed around at the Fae. “Is this how humans are normally treated, or am I a special case?” she asked them.

“So … that part is true, then. The Seelie and the Unseelie.” Summer pursed her lips for a moment, filing that information away. “Your own preferences, hey? So, what, the idea was to build a place where you could indulge yourself?”

Vex listened to her words, surprised by the older-terms that she was using. The Fae had been calling them Light and Dark for decades, but she had the technical terminology right regardless. He nodded at the inquiry as he replied, “For the most part, yes.”

“Lucky you.” Awkwardly, Summer turned away. She didn’t know what else to say to this man.
