“And how will we know I’ve lost? It can’t be anything so simple as hanging out together, or calling you. It has to be something I wouldn’t ordinarily do.” Low, she murmured, “Something to justify that confidence of yours.”
“We’ll know I’ve won when you try to hold my hand.” Tony grinned. “All you have to do is avoid the urge to grab onto these.” Tony raised his hands wiggling his fingers. “These big strong warm hands.”
“That’s almost /too/ easy.” She smiled slyly and lifted a hand to press against his. His fingertips overtopped hers by half an inch or more. “And will you be doing anything — particular to win?”
“Not a thing besides being my normal painfully charming self.” he smirked. “And what will you be doing to try to prevent me from winning?”
“Let me see … if you take /my/ hand, then you lose. Yes?” She scraped her fingernails down, curling her fingers inward. “I’ve no skill at flirting, but if you fall for me …” She couldn’t finish, breaking into laughter.
“I don’t want anything, I can’t just turn off the charm.” he laughed taking a sip of his coffee. “It’s like a waterfall. If you try to stop it it’s just gunna wash over you harder.”
“And if I just … step out of the waterfall? If I’m immune? Does that bother you?” Summer listened with more than ears, this time. He was so intriguing, bantering back and forth with, yes, charming ease. But she’d already been burned by charming boys who wanted nothing more than to humiliate her. She wasn’t going to fall for that again. But it might be worth trying to turn the tables.
“I bet you /can’t/ charm me.”
“Oh you sweet naive baby,” Tony teased. “There is no stepping out of the waterfall. Once you’re in you’re in for life. No escape.” Tony grinned hearing her last comment. “If I didn’t know any better I’d say that was a challenge.”
She grinned back. “Oh, absolutely.” Setting her cup aside, she leaned forward, green eyes fixed to his, full of mischief and daring him. “Bet anything you like that you can’t do it.”
“I just don’t understand why you’re so willing to lose a bet.” Tony smirked, returning her gaze. “You will lose by the way.” He winked, taking a sip of his coffee to cover a chuckle.

Summer had to bite her lips not to laugh at him again. She forced her face to hold a serious expression. “I have awesome hair too,” she pointed out. “I’m still not sure I understand what I’m supposed to be not resisting here.” She let her green eyes go big and innocent at Tony.
“You’re supposed to be resisting my immense charm.” Tony laughed. “A task many a man and woman have found to be impossible.” He grinned.
“I’m not finding it that difficult.” She leaned back, wrapping both hands around her cup and sipping while she watched him. “You’re interesting, yes. But what do you want? What’s the charm /for/?”

“I thought we already covered the fact that I know that I’m irresistible,” Tony laughed carefully sitting on the couch so as to not spill his coffee. “So you study here a lot or something?”
“Three english courses and two philosophy courses means a lot of reading. This is a really nice place to do it.” Holding her cup in one hand, Summer leaned her chin on the other hand, elbow on her knee. “What’s supposed to make you so irresistible?”
“Pretty much everything.” Tony laughed. “I have a great body, awesome hair, I’m devilishly handsome. And I have a winning personality.” He slid his fingers through his hair. “I’m kind of amazing.”

“There’s a couch back here that’s practically got my name on it this semester,” she told him, carefully picking up her chocolate. “How about geek? I like geek. I’m a renaissance geek.”
Tony grabbed his coffee off the counter and took a sip. “Well lead the way geek.” He laughed following behind her.
Summer sprawled herself into half the couch, back to the armrest and knee bent up across the cushion. Her bookbag thunked to the floor and she blew over the top of her hot chocolate. “Still think you’re irresistible, nerd boy?”

“What? I’m serious!” Tony laughed. “You know I’m an asshole so why even try to deny it.” He gave Summer a playful push on the shoulder. “No one has laughed that hard at that particular joke in a long time.”
“You’re not an asshole, Tony, you’re just full of shit,” she teased. Fishing in her back pocket, she pulled out a five and passed it over the counter. “Get your coffee, nerd.”
“Nerd is an offensive term.” he laughed, “We prefer scientifically proficient.” He told the cashier his order and handed her his debit card. “Awesome. Now where you wanna sit?”
