Summer Rainault paused in the hallway at the nameplate marked ‘Dr Bruce Banner’, and bestowed her fiercest glare on it. The one that hadn’t worked on Director Fury, or Maria Hill. They seemed to think Dr Banner was … well, not stupid, because he was world-renowed for his science, not just his other half, but somehow unobservant. That he would not figure out that she wasn’t there to ‘assist’ him, but to monitor him.

Ugh.

But she needed the money, and if she didn’t get out of the damn apartment more Marie was going to drive her mad. So here she was, hovering outside Dr Banner’s lab like a scared child. Summoning up her courage, she knocked firmly on the lab door.

It was Maria Hill who informed him that he would be gaining a lab assistant. After a quizzical yet suspicious look on his face she explained that Summer was a S.H.I.E.L.D agent and still yet needed some experience. Bruce would have greatly preferred it had he been asked before hand, and he thought that S.H.I.E.L.D didn’t seem to quite understand that he didn’t work for them. But he didn’t turn it down because he supposed a lab assistant wouldn’t be too bothersome to have around so long as they didn’t cower in fear every time he looked at them.

The knock on the door caused him to look up from his work where his eyes glanced over to the clock on the wall. It must have been Summer. Bruce stood up from his desk and went to open the door where he greeted the woman with a polite smile.

“I imagine you’re Summer? It’s good to meet you.”

“It’s nice to meet you too, Dr Banner.” Summer offered a swift handshake and a smile. “I guess someone told you I was coming, huh?” Already she could sense he was vaguely annoyed. Great. And there was that deep well of banked anger, although it was nowhere near as close to the surface as she’d been told.

“Well, I’m ready to get to work. What do you need?”
