It felt like she should be reeling with exhaustion, Summer thought, reaching to knock on Loki’s door. She just needed to escape, not think about Gabriel’s absence or Tony’s sickness or how to make nice with the Loki in the Tower, or how she wasn’t enough of a hero. Too many emotions, not enough of them hers.

She raked her fingers back through her hair, hugging her trenchcoat closer around her body, and waited.

Loki is reading in his private study when he hears the knock at his door. The god replaces the book and magically seals the room once more before answering.

“Summer! It’s been a long time! I almost thought you forgot about me.” He winks jokingly, though he had inadvertently touched on a sore spot of his. “What brings you out this way?”

“I missed you.” Her smile was a little lopsided, looking up at him. “I came over here hoping maybe I could ask you to listen to me.”
