On the doorstep…

Summer had all but given up for the night, just finishing up the last chapter, when the knock came at the door. Unwinding herself from the couch, she opened the door, a dark-eared furry face peering around her ankles. Copper-red hair spilled over her shoulders in loose ripples to her knees, in contrast to her green eyes. Pale blue velveteen hugged her torso in a tank top; a sage green skirt swirled around her knees.

“You must be Oz.” She smiled, one bare foot blocking the cat’s egress. Deliberately, she looked him up and down, and the smile deepened. “Well, when I fat-finger a number, I don’t do it by halves, do I?” One hand held out, she beckoned. “Come in.”

He shrugged, “I suppose not.” A self loving grin formed wider across his face as he waltzed in. His hat was placed gently on the arm of a near by chair and he looked down at the cat. “If that furball gets any hair on my hat…” he muttered to himself before taking off his coat and placing it by his hat. He now stood in a white collared shirt that was underneath a black vest, also tucked into his dark pinstriped pants and dress shoes.

“I’d apologise for my state of dress, but I wasn’t sure after all that you would come.” Summer closed the door gently. “Helios won’t bother your hat.” Stepping closer, she looked up, into his eyes. Dark, and warm. Almost familiar. One hand smoothed down his shoulder, a secret smile forming on her lips. “Well, well. Hello, Oscar Diggs.”
