the Tale of Sir Isaac

Cora gestured for Summer to rise, since she showed no sign of doing so at Isaac’s command. “My royal brother suggested I offer your guest some assistance by way of clothing and introduction to the court.” She patted Isaac’s arm. “I’m commanding you to release her to me for the day. You’re to come to dinner tonight.”

“And I suppose you deem me completely useless and irresponsible for the job?” he asked of Cora before turning to Summer, scrutinising her and trying to wordlessly convey that she didn’t have to do anything that made her uncomfortable.

“Why, my lord Isaac, I had no idea you were so knowledgeable about ladies’ clothing!” Cora said sweetly. “Of course you may assist. I do hope the fittings won’t bore you.” She glanced at Summer and winked, slowly, leaving the serf-girl with both hands over her mouth to hold in giggles. She could tell she and the princess would get along fine.

Cora held out her hand to Summer. “Come along now. I’m sure Sir Isaac can catch up with us quite easily when he is finished relaxing from his meal. We wouldn’t want to interrupt that.”
