the Tale of Sir Isaac

Garrett guided Isaac through the maze of camps and pavilions, pointing out and identifying various important folk, as well as the tournament locations such as the jousting field and archery range, as well as the field where bonfires would be placed in the evenings. It was Prince Edward’s conceit to hold a great feast out-of-doors at least once during the tournament, despite the cold of winter.

The pair fetched up finally at the registrar, where Isaac was asked to provide his identity and indicate which portions of the tournament he intended to participate in, as well as if he intended to attempt the Princess’ Task.

His eyes widened as he attempted to memorise the journey in case he should need to make a quick and sudden exit, and he didn’t manage to maintain much of a conversation with the other male while doing so. A lot of work had gone into the preparation for this tournament, and as a result, Isaac knew that he’d have a lot of hearts to win over when it became his turn, but his main aim was to find Summer, and take her back home.

“I’m the Azure Knight,” he murmured by way of offering, voice lower and huskier than normal, just in case Summer should be nearby. He didn’t want to attract her attention just yet — he needed to win the tournament in order to win favour with the rest of her family.

The registrar lifted both eyebrows for a moment, but knights concealing their identities wasn’t completely unheard of, and at least this so-called Azure Knight would be easy to identify, as his name was clearly derived from his blank shield. Setting down his information, the registrar waved them pair off with a reminder that the Azure Knight would be expected to keep up with his own combat schedule, though he could request the services of a page if he desired.

Garrett guided the Azure Knight to a small campsite, then, and left him there alone.
