It seemed to be a long time later when she drew back slightly, but the shadows of the sun had barely moved. “Perhaps — perhaps we should take to the road. My lord.” Where before, when she gave him the title, it was a means to keeping distance between them, now the words had a more possessive, loving twist. A slight, soft smile curved her mouth.
“Isaac.” He enunciated slowly and clearly, rolling his eyes in fond exasperation as he hauled himself to his feet. Gazing down at her and smiling as the sunlight danced in her hair, he held out his hand for her to take, tilting his head to the side. “We’ll stop again in a couple of hours, okay?”
She let him pull her up, and came up against his body hard, colour rising in her face. “Isaac,” she repeated, smile widening. Stepping back, she let her hand linger in his for a moment, then bent to the task of dousing and burying the coals of their fire. There was little else to do save roll up their blankets and saddle Buttons after that.
