The Discovery of Hidden Secrets

It didn’t really bother Summer that Isaac wanted to spend the evening studying. Exams were coming up, and even though they’d spent as much time as possible together over the last couple weeks, she was pretty sure if they tried to study together no actual studying would get done.

It did leave her rather at loose ends, though — /she/ didn’t study. Oh, she might spend an hour going back over some notes or chapters, but studying wasn’t something she ever really had done. Plus, half her classes had final papers instead of final exams, and those were all done.

After a little thought, she decided to take a walk. It had been a while since she’d rambled through the Preserve, and evening light ran late enough that she could be out there for a long time. Sometimes she just needed to be away from people.

In all honesty, he would actually benefit from studying due to the approaching exams, but as he felt the Full Moon rise in the air and the wolf side start to take over and control him, he knew it would be pointless to even attempt it. Once he’d transformed, he longed to run free in the woods, not spend hours cooped up in a room with near incomprehensible textbooks.

Oblivious to the thoughts wandering through his girlfriend’s mind, he broke out into a run as he reached the outskirts of the woods, a howl tearing out of his throat to announce his arrival.

Summer rambled happily through the woods for several hours. When it began to get truly dark, she started to make her way back toward her car, occasionally using her phone to orient herself. She could hear howls from deeper in the forest, but didn’t think about it too much.

Until a tall figure with burning eyes burst out from around a tree immediately after one of the closer howls. Summer shrieked, first in startlement, then in genuine fear as the figure bared fangs and crouched to spring at her.

She bolted, crashing back through the forest with no idea where she was going except away. She rounded another tree and nearly ran into someone else, even darker than the shadows could account for, and also with those burning blue eyes and fanged mouth. Backpedalling as fast as she could, she tripped over a branch buried in leaves, stumbled into a shallow dip, and fell.
