She made a pleased sound of agreement. “School’s almost over for the year. It’ll be fine.”

“I can’t wait to spend the whole summer with you.” He hummed with a dreamy little smile, shifting against her and settling down comfortably. “But when it’s the Full Moon, I promise to run off into the woods to keep you safe.”

Summer rolled her eyes. “What if I want to run off with you? You won’t eat me. Some of the /others/ might eat me, I’m still dubious about your blue-eyed buddy, but you won’t eat me.” She kissed at his ear and whispered, “I believe in you.”

“My aunt has a beach house a little north of San Francisco. I was thinking, when school lets out for the summer, we could borrow it for a weekend? Just you and me? Assuming,” she said, slightly more stern, “nobody fails any classes.”

“I’d like that.” He hummed happily and nuzzled at her neck, before smiling a sheepish smile and shrugging helplessly. “I’m trying my hardest, Summer, I promise. Somehow, I’m juggling Lacrosse, school, pack stuff and spending time with you.”

She made a pleased sound of agreement. “School’s almost over for the year. It’ll be fine.”

She nosed at him. “Shhh. I’m not complaining. That’s a useful thing to know. Two useful things.” Dotting little kisses along his cheekbones, she murmured, “Do you have enough brain to talk about something else for a moment, though?”

He laughed softly and nuzzled his nose against her cheek, the touch soothing and calming him as he nodded jerkily. “Yeah…what is it?” he whispered and took a series of deep breaths, eyes transforming from gold to their original blue.

“Would I do — are you /licking/ me?” Summer pulled away, snickering and catching at him. She dragged in a breath when she saw his eyes, but it wasn’t fear. “That should not turn me on,” she muttered.

“You…it’s a possessive thing, I’m sorry…” he whispered helplessly, cheeks colouring scarlet as he closed his eyes, failing to control himself. “It’s…it’s because of…well, I’m aroused, okay? This happens every Full Moon and I…sorry, Summer…”

She shivered a little at the sensation. “Are you sure you don’t need to check? I could be all scraped up under my clothes.” It was hard to sound sultry, which she sucked at anyway, and teasing, and not giggle at the same time.

His eyes flashed golden and he let out a faint whine, nibbling at her neck as he gripped at her hips. “You’re teasing me…” He whispered with a grunt, licking at her chin as he tried to keep from transforming.

Summer giggled. “Do you need to check me all over? Sniff for hidden wounds? No fangs, please.”

“I can’t smell any blood.” He shrugged and nosed at the crook of her neck, humming and inhaling her familiar scent as he pressed a kiss to the underside of her chin.

She poked him in the side. “Did I not just ask you to hold me? I’m right here.” She put her chin on his head, digging down into the curls just a little. “How did I scare you?”

“I meant all the time – I never want to let you go,” he murmured, before squeaking and wriggling away as her fingers poked his ribs. Snuggling closer to her and letting his fingers dance across her spine, “Because I thought…I thought you were really hurt.”

Summer giggled. “Do you need to check me all over? Sniff for hidden wounds? No fangs, please.”

“Mmmm. What if you need protecting?” She cuddled deeper into Isaac’s warmth, eyes crinkling with a smile as she realised one of the reasons he was so warm was because he was a werewolf. She could get used to that.

“I’ve never had anyone protect me other than the pack.” He stated with a shrug as he tenderly kissed the side of her neck, smiling into the skin. “Can I just hold you? The wolf and human part of me needs you close right now…you really scared me earlier, Summer.”

She poked him in the side. “Did I not just ask you to hold me? I’m right here.” She put her chin on his head, digging down into the curls just a little. “How did I scare you?”

“No, not really.” Summer shook her head positively, not even thinking about the answer. She took his hand, wanting to touch him. The residue of fear still settled in her bones, and she suddenly pressed up close to him. “Hold me.”

His shoulders slumped as he relaxed, nodding and eagerly gathering her up into his arms and resting his chin on her shoulder. “It’ll be okay, you know. I promise to always protect you, Summer?”

Her gaze flicked over to one of the bookshelves for a second. “Why do I feel like this relationship has turned completely unfair? I can’t outrun you, I can’t sneak past you, I’ll never be able to win a tickle fight, your bite is meaner than mine … woe.” She put on the saddest, silliest pouting face. “I can’t even wear perfume anymore.” With a little shove, she said, “Okay, you can shift back, I can’t kiss you like that.”

“But you have the most gorgeous smile and laugh that I’ve ever heard,” he stated as if that made all of the difference, and he grinned, shifting back to human with ease and then lunging up to kiss her on the lips. “What do you mean about the perfume?” he mumbled, reluctant to break contact.

By the time she could breathe again and not just chase after his mouth, she’d almost forgotten the question. “Uh, oh, um, wouldn’t it give you a headache? With heightened sense of smell?”
