[text] yes Tony. I left the door unlocked for you

[text] See you soon.

Summer laid down the phone beside her hip, looking over at the dvd rack and trying to convince herself that she could move. Her back felt like something large had stepped on her, and she felt drained even after doing very little. Well, the media remote was at least within reach, so she picked that up first.

Tony stopped at a shop long enough to buy candy, and then continued on his way to Summer’s.  He parked outside, knocked on the door, and then stepped in without waiting for an answer.  “I come bearing candy,” he announced, as he plopped two bags of M&Ms down on the edge of the couch by the phone.

“Have I told you just how much I love you lately.” Seizing one of the bags, Summer tried to rip it open without spattering candy all over the room. “I turned on the system, and then my energy ran out.” Resting the bag in her lap, she rubbed at her face, then gave Tony a smile. “Hey, Tony. Thanks.”

“It was a valiant effort,” Tony assured her, and stepped over to finish setting up the DVD player.  “You ever decide on a movie?”  He peered over his shoulder at her, offering a crooked smile.  “Well, it wasn’t entirely altruistic.  I’ve lived through Pepper’s worst, so I figure it’s best if I ingratiate myself to you, in case it gets hazardous later.”  Because of course he couldn’t just say ‘it’s cool, I want you to feel better.’

“I don’t usually get anything but whiny for the first couple days. After that I’m —ngh,” she grimaced and breathed hard, “fine. Lord of the Rings, please? Shelf of honour. That top one.” After another minute of wrestling, she got the bag open and dropped a handful into her mouth. “Truly, thank you.”
