Summer drew a little circle in the air with her finger, idly, and a circle of flame traced around the intruder, about chest height. “I did something. I mean, if you came in here to elicit a particular reaction — which you talk like you did — I don’t think you’re going to get it. We don’t /know/ you, boyo, and if either of us, any of us, is supposed to maybe you should start introducing yourself.”

Donny watches her taken back by the fire she created like it was magic.”The hell!?”He asks stepping back when the flames were close. He looks over at her, angry about her words. He licks his lips and shakes his head.”Not going to bother.”He says a little chocked up.”Put this fucking sorcery down and let me go.”

“Pretty sure he’s confused, honey,” Tony remarked dryly, glancing at Summer.  “He comes in here waving a gun, and yet he objects to us.  I think I’m offended.”  He rolled his eyes.  ”Regardless, if I’d met you, Jarvis would recognize you, and he doesn’t.  Which means I’ve done jack-all to warrant to gun waving.  So unless you have a very compelling reason as to why we should just let you go, one of us is calling the cops.”

“Oh I’m sorry your stupid computer doesn’t recognize me,clearly you need to work on it.”He says.”Don’t even say that he “knows everyone” because he clearly doesn’t..I’m here,I’m a person and he doesn’t know me..great job having him only know people you know and not have him detect someone when something dangerous happens like..oh I don’t know..if a fucking intruder comes into your home.”He says clearly upset. He hands Tony his gun.”Here.Keep it..detect my fingerprints then put me into your system so you know who I am.”He walks away.”You’re welcome.”

“You don’t get to just leave.” Summer’s tone snapped with anger. “Not at this point.” She dropped another ring of fire around him, closer this time. Much closer. Close enough that if he moved even a little, he was going to lose his clothing and possibly some hair, and she wasn’t going to lift a finger to stop it.

“You waltz in here, bypassing all the alarms and security, which means you didn’t come in past them. So you can just stay there and explain how you got in. Failing that, I can force you to explain. Failing /that/, we’ll just assume you crossed in from another dimension, which means, idiot, that he doesn’t know you and Jarvis doesn’t know you and I certainly don’t fucking know you from Jack’s ass.”

Sparks started to lift off her skin, and she stalked closer to the intruder. “You pulled a gun on Tony,” she hissed. Tension rippled down her back, hot air lifting her hair around her. “You brought a gun into our house, and now you want to say it’s our fault.” She flexed her fingers, struggling to control her temper.

Donny smirks at the woman in the doorway.”I’m just being reasonable, honey. At this point..it’s considered reasonable.”He stares at her for a moment.”Maybe you can tell Buzz over here to put his..lightsaber or..whatever down..”

“Nah, he seems pretty comfortable as is,” Tony replied.  “But maybe you can explain who the hell you are, and give us a really good reason as to why neither of them should do something very painful to you.”  If only Loki was home.  Then it could be a full party.

“Do something. Maybe you’ll recognize my scream,” he says, staring Tony down giving him a look.

“I may wish?”Donny says simply with a chuckle,he puts the gun down and turns around to see the other man.He looks over at Tony again.”You got Buzz Lightyear protecting you now?”

image

“He’ll turn your head into bony shrapnel if you twitch wrong, so I’d say he’s pretty damned good at his job,” Tony replied.  “Did you call Summer?”

image

Of course, sir.”  It went without saying that he kept the gauntlet focused on its target.

image

“Good.  Great.”  Tony turned his attention back to the intruder.  “Now who the hell are you?”

Donny closes his eyes for a moment and sighs heavily,he looks at tony and opens his eyes again.”If you don’t recognize me then how about you tell this guy to put down his weapon and let me go.You’ll never see me again.”

“Coming in here with a gun and that kind of arrogance doesn’t usually get you recognised around here as anything other than a threat.” Summer paused in the doorway, hands on her hips. She looked Donny up and down. “You’re a hell of a piece of work.”

His moving meant her arms slid off his shoulders, and she growled softly. “I was thinking something a little more hands-on.” She came up and wrapped her arms around his middle, resting her head on his chest. “Jarvis can hold the camera.”

“But you’re gonna be all cold and soggy,” Tony whined playfully, curling one arm around her shoulders.  “That’s gonna make me cold and soggy, and I’ve already done all that.”

She snuggled into his arms more deeply. “That’s why it’s happening in the summertime, when it’s warm? I mean, I could dry off before the hands-on part, but I’ll still be cold inside … ” Summer looked up, sticking her lower lip out at him, with big soulful eyes.

She stuck her tongue out. “Unfair, low blow, Stark. I’m going to need something better than a hairdryer to warm me up if I let you pour ice over my head.” She tossed the tablet on the couch and came over to drape her arms around his neck — well, she tried to, anyway. “Ouch!” She pulled her hand away from the gauntlet and shook it. “It sparked me!”

“Whoops.  Jarvis.  Scanners—”

-Are running, sir.-

“Good.  Need to fine tune the shield to recognize Summer’s and Loki’s baseline readings.  Anyway.”  He moved away from the worktop enough that he would be out of the shield’s range.  “Should I have hot chocolate waiting for you?  Jarvis has gotten pretty good at kitchen-y things.”

His moving meant her arms slid off his shoulders, and she growled softly. “I was thinking something a little more hands-on.” She came up and wrapped her arms around his middle, resting her head on his chest. “Jarvis can hold the camera.”

She narrowed her eyes at him, complete with pursed lips. “That is not what I meant and you know it. Ice water, Tony? Ice water? I hate cold. I hate cold worse than Steve. You /know/ this.” She paused as a thought struck her. “Did Loki put you up to this?”

“I’m very sad for you, but I misplaced my violin.  This’ll have to do,” he replied, rubbing two fingers together.  “And Loki had nothing to do with it.  He’s off doing Loki things.”  He grinned.  “If I can put up with having my head doused, you can put up with the cold, Sunshine.  I’ll stand by with a hairdryer.”

Summer carried the tablet down to the workshop, glaring at the video on it accusingly. She /knew/ he was down there. “Anthony Edward Stark,” she said, “what the hell did you think you were doing?” She lifted her brows meaningfully at him and turned the tablet to show him his ice bucket video, on a loop.

He looked up from the gauntlet of the Mark VIII (he’d started affectionately calling it Enchantment Zero), turning large, innocent Bambi eyes on her.  ”What?  Is there something wrong with donating to charity?”

She narrowed her eyes at him, complete with pursed lips. “That is not what I meant and you know it. Ice water, Tony? Ice water? I hate cold. I hate cold worse than Steve. You /know/ this.” She paused as a thought struck her. “Did Loki put you up to this?”

She sulked at him. “I hate it when you make sense. ‘s not fair. How’m I supposed to think when it looks like you’re falling?” She chucked another couple fireballs, and tried to insinuate a thread of fire into the joints of the armour. It didn’t work very well.

“The same way you think during a crisis, super hero,” Tony replied, still sounding amused.  He lifted one hand to watch the fire try to worm its way into the joints of the gauntlet.  “It’s not like I jumped off a building without knowing what would happen.  This thing’s based on the Mark VII, just…refined a bit.”

She didn’t deign to answer any of that; okay, she’d overreacted. Instead she concentrated harder on trying to push her magic into the armour, and shook her head. “What did you /do/ to this one? I can’t even get a hold on it; it’s like it’s slippery.”
