“I can stop.” She didn’t want to move, though, and she didn’t think he did either. She searched his face, watching every tiny motion, green eyes serious. It felt like she was barely breathing, waiting to see what he would do next.

“I don’t think anybody has ever been that close to me,” he murmured lowly then and cocked his head to the side, eyes roaming her face as noted her proximity to him. “It’s different.”

“Do you want me to stop?” Summer whispered. She didn’t move, but she could feel a blush rising up her face. Irrelevantly, she remembered that there were studies claiming that staring into another person’s eyes for a few minutes could cause a real emotional attachment. Was that what was happening? Should she look away? She didn’t want to look away.

Summer clutched at him a couple more times, and somehow ended up with one arm draped over his waist as well, and a foot hooked around his leg. She let the credits play, and end, and return to the menu screen, without moving, before slowly tilting her head up to look at him.

“You’re very close to me,” he observed as the credit rolled on the screen, making absolutely no effort whatsoever to move. He was comfortable and it was almost as if he were afraid to move.

“It’s gross every. Single. Time. Ew. Ew. EEEEEW.” She peered at the tv. “Oh good, it’s okay. Residual ew.” She snuggled herself more firmly under his arm. “Pay attention, this part is important.”

“No matter how many times you see it?” He laughed softly then and relaxed back against the sofa, arm wrapped loosely around her waist. Settling down and falling silent, he watched the remainder of the film curled against her.

She twitched across the couch in bits and pieces during the battle scenes, until she was virtually pressed up against him, not actually touching yet. And then the baby monster /eats/ one of the characters, as they’re crawling around inside the belly of another, and she shoved her face into his shoulder and made disgusted noises.

He grimaced and gagged at the sight, screwing his eyes shut briefly and then cracking them open as he felt the added weight. Eyeing her with some concern, he wrapped an arm around her and patted her gently on the back. “I thought you’d seen this before? Didn’t you know this bit was coming?”

“He played Hellboy? And he does the narration for the Fallout games.” She shut up for the first bits of the movie, because it’s important to be able to follow the voice over — the movie made so much more sense with that setup. Not that a movie about man-made giant robots fighting monstrous aliens emerging from the sea makes that much sense, but it made /more/ sense. She propped herself up against the arm of the couch, and without really realizing, her bare feet crept across until she was pressing them against Isaac’s leg.

“I’ve not seen that – I think I’ve got a lot to catch up on, huh? Maybe we should have more movie nights?” he suggested with a crooked, playful smile and then fell silent, watching the movie with a captivated interest, jaw dropping and eyes widening in all the right parts. He was so entranced in the on-screen action that he never noticed her bare feet nearing his leg, nor did he feel the slight impact when she pressed her feet against him.

“It’s amazing. Everything you never knew you wanted in a live-action giant robot movie. Huge fight sequences, actual science, psuedo-military organization, and a really gross bit. And Ron Perlman.” Summer pulled it off the shelf and snapped the case open, quickly setting up the media system. She chose to sit on the other end of the couch from where Isaac had been sitting, and hit play.

His eyes widened then before he scrunched up his nose. “I don’t know who that is, but I’ll take your word for it. I’ve just heard it’s supposed to be a pretty damn awesome film, I just never got around to seeing it until now.” He shrugged and returned to his earlier seat, curling up slightly and settling back against the sofa.

Summer said uncomfortably, “I’m used to being picked on for my Tolkien obsession.” Her heart jumped when he leaned over her, and she wouldn’t let herself look at him. “They’re all my favourites, that’s why I brought them.” Her hand hovered over Labyrinth, then Pacific Rim. “This one?”

“I’ve never read the books but the films are awesome. And I’m not picking on you, am I? If anything, I’m just as much a geek as you are.” He teased her then, trying to inject a little light-hearted humour into the conversation, slowly pulling back so as not to crowd her. He cast her an apologetic smile, before nodding and wrapping his arms around his waist. “I’ve not seen it yet – is it good?”

“Geek,” she said quietly and succinctly. She got up and crossed over to the media center, running her fingers over the bluray cases, fingertips catching on a few of them. “You don’t have any other preferences?”

“And that’s a bad thing because…?” He gestured for her to continue, his eyes lifting to follow her across the room, a small frown adorning his face. “I don’t get it, Summer. I like all those things too, I just don’t really get Shakespeare, that’s all.” He stood up then and padded across the room to join her. “What’s your favourite one out of all those ones you just told me?”

“I didn’t bring everything,” she mumbled. “Just my favourites. Labyrinth, Princess Bride, Lord of the Rings — don’t you dare laugh at me. Shakespeare in Love, Pacific Rim, two different versions of Much Ado About Nothing … ”

“Well, I don’t know about the Shakespeare stuff, but the other movies sound pretty damn awesome to me.” Isaac was quick to placate her, before his eyebrows furrowed together and he cocked his head to the side. “Why would I laugh at you, Summer?”

“Geek,” she said quietly and succinctly. She got up and crossed over to the media center, running her fingers over the bluray cases, fingertips catching on a few of them. “You don’t have any other preferences?”

She huffed an unexpected laugh. “I’m not good at jokes. I’m good at smart remarks and making people feel weird and being stupid and awkward.” She looked around the room helplessly. “Let’s … watch a movie.”

“Smart remarks can be fun.” Isaac returned the laugh and graced her with an encouraging smile, before he nodded and straightened up, following her eyes as they darted around the room. “Sure! What movies have you got?”

“I didn’t bring everything,” she mumbled. “Just my favourites. Labyrinth, Princess Bride, Lord of the Rings — don’t you dare laugh at me. Shakespeare in Love, Pacific Rim, two different versions of Much Ado About Nothing … ”
