“Please, I can’t — do what you want. I /can’t/.
—- I can’t /be/ like you, it will destroy me.”

“Oh spare me the dramatics. Of course you
can. It’s not hard, I can show you. You won’t
be thinking so … negatively after.”

“Please, you have to listen. You have to understand — I /can’t/.
What you want — I’d /rather/ die first.”

“I don’t know, you look like you might want to bite,” she teased back gently. When he grabbed her wrist, she realised he was the same Isaac underneath, and her shoulders relaxed. Looking at his new friends, her gaze lingered on Scott for a moment, as she also realised she recognised him. He worked at the vet’s where she took her cat.

She ducked her face into Isaac’s shoulder when he laughed at her, and offered a proper smile in response. “I didn’t mean to interrupt anything, only you winked at me!” She pretended to be faintly outraged, then nudged him in the ribs. “Are you going out for the lacrosse team this year?”

Just cause I got about a half dozen tattoos over the summer doesnt mean Im gonna hurt you! Isaac chuckled; he was joking but serious in every way. He really cared for her, since she was one of the only people who accepted him before the bite. It wasnt like they were the best of friends, just companions. Acquaintances even. All he knew was that he cared for her.

Her slight outrage made him laugh a little louder, trying to fake an angry face and shake a stern finger at her, but the smile couldnt fade from Summers actions. Well, then, I guess Ill have to stop winking at you! Thats gonna be hard when you look so pretty The beta was flirting with her, casually, but the intentions were still true. The nudge to Isaacs side made him jump slightly, but only out of shock that she had done it. She really had changed over the summer, even if it was just the slightest. Not to mention, she looked pretty freaking hot.

Hell yeah, Im doing lacrosse! Im really hoping to make first line this year. Hopefully the whole pink hair thing will be gone by then. I mean its almost already gone, see? Isaac acted surprised that she didnt already know, but told her all the same. At the mention of his hair, he ran his fingers through his curls so that the blonde and brown strands showed up clearly.

“They do make you look quite fierce, though,” Summer pointed out, about the tattoos. “Like you ride a motorcycle to school. Do you?

“I like you winking at me, though.” She blushed slightly at the compliment. “Thank you,” she murmured, then reached up on tiptoes and ruffled his hair, making the curls spring, and giggled at him. “But it’s cute, and it’ll be under your helmet anyway. You’re going to cut it again too, aren’t you?” Again she pouted, making big eyes at him, then lost it in another giggle.

“I’ll come and cheer for you, okay?”

She ducked her head, smiling shyly at his compliment. She didn’t think she’d changed as much as he had over the summer, but maybe the way he saw things had also changed. She reached out to touch one of his tattoos and remembered belatedly that was rude, snatching her hand back.

Embarrassed, she glanced around at his new friends, twisting her book in her hands. “So, um, hi,” she said shyly. “I’m Summer.” She bobbed her head at them and looked back to Isaac.

Her reactions were confusing him; before the bite this would have never happened. Isaac was enjoying it, but he didnt know how far he could push it, or what else Summer would be shy of. Chuckling at her child-like reaction to wanting to touch his tattoos, he grabbed her wrist softly as she was pulling away. Hey, dont worry, I dont bite, the lanky teen teased as he let go of her hand. You can touch em if you want.

Oh, Summer, this is Scott, Stiles, and Boyd. Guys, Summer. Isaac introduced them slowly to Summer, each one of them smiling at her when he did so. Smiling brightly as her, the beta laughed at her shyness before wrapping a friendly arm across her shoulders to make her feel welcome.

“I don’t know, you look like you might want to bite,” she teased back gently. When he grabbed her wrist, she realised he was the same Isaac underneath, and her shoulders relaxed. She jumped when he winked and waved at her, butterflies fluttering in her stomach. He was flirting with her! She blushed a little, taking his motion as invitation, and climbed out of her chair. Shaking her skirts straight, she gripped her book and her courage in both hands and walked over to say hello.

She wasn’t sure if it was the leather, the broadened shoulders, or the confidence that was so mesmerising about him now. The Isaac she remembered didn’t really like to be noticed, but this Isaac shouted his presence loud and proud. She definitely liked it.

“You look different,” she said, inanely. “It looks good.” Then she wanted to smack herself for saying such a stupid thing.

Her jump made him furrow his eyebrows in confusion, not knowing if it was that she was scared of his new appearance or not. It wasnt as intense as it had been in the beginning of the summer when he had first got bitten by Derek. Everything then was either bright neon or pitch black, but now he was sticking to shades of dark colors, even his signature scarf was hanging around his neck again. His hair was almost back to normal, the bright color was going to fade out in one or two more washes, and a part of Isaac was relieved to have it back to normal. Running a hand through his neon curls subconsciously, he watched as Summer walked over to him with a huge grin.

Youre not looking too bad yourself, Red, the tattooed beta chuckled as he motioned for her to sit down with them. Im glad you like it, though. I really like it.

Summer couldn’t take her eyes off Isaac. He’d /changed/, over the summer — from shy, sweet, almost puppy-like to fierce, his arms and shoulders marked with tattoos she wanted a closer look at. His hair, once so curly and dark, was brightly coloured and spiky, contrasting attractively with the piercings in his eyebrow and ears. She thought she’d seen a tongue piercing, as well.

She kept peeking at him over her book, biting her lip and ducking away whenever it looked like he might be looking back. He probably didn’t like people staring at him. Whatever had changed, though, it looked good on him; he smiled more, and had a cluster of friends now.

Over the summer, Isaac had gone a little crazy with changing his image. Derek helped him get a few tattoos done on his biceps and shoulders, he got a few piercings, and he even colored his hair. While the tattoos he loved would stay, his hair was fading to its normal color and the piercings were starting to close because of the bite, but he was enjoying it while it lasted. The pack seemed to accept it, causing him to be happier than he was before, like he was a different person.

The leather-wearing beta was laughing along with his friends as he noticed an old friend, Summer, peeking out from her book to stare at him. He didnt mind at all, his appearance probably just shocked her. Grinning like a goofball, Isaac sent her a flirty wink and a wave from across the room. Hopefully, she wouldnt be too shy to talk to him now.

Summer perched on the edge of the couch, and gave him a quick once-over. “You look much better,” she commented, and stood up. Beckoning, she led him around a low half-wall, lined with bookcases, and gestured at the bed.

“Helios may try to knead you, just push him away if it’s a problem.” The fluffy, Siamese-pointed cat leaped up onto the bed and watched Isaac with blue eyes. “I’ll see you in the morning, okay?”

“Yeah, I feel a lot better..” he nodded with a grin as they wandered to the bedroom. Cats didn’t usually get along with werewolves, often hissing at him as soon as they saw him. Helios didn’t seem all that bothered however, maybe he was just too laid back to care. Isaac liked having him there. “He’s no trouble,” Isaac insisted with a grin before shifting his eyes from the cat up to Summer. “Thanks again…I’ll see you in the morning.” He nodded before laying his head down on the pillow, stroking the cat gently.

Helios sprawled himself alongside Isaac, purring quietly, and Summer smiled fondly. “Good night, boys,” she said, voice soft. She went back to the couch and settled down, wriggling out of her jeans and turning off the lights.

She could only blink after him, taken aback by his statements. No boy with the concealed sweetness she sensed in him would kill. She knew that. Yet he’d felt the need to defend himself to her anyway. Shaking her head, she nudged Helios away from his sulk at the now-closed bathroom door, and picked up the few clothes she’d found of Isaac’s.

“Come on, silly kitty. He doesn’t want to share the shower with you,” she said. After she started the dryer, she rummaged up sheets and a blanket and pillows, piling them on the couch. Then she tapped on the bathroom door. “Everything alright in there?”

It was a relief to stand in a steaming hot shower. He immersed himself in the water, closing his eyes as the heat engulfed him. All the grime and dirt from the lake dispersed down the plughole and he was finally able to feel clean. As she called in, Isaac jumped slightly: he was easily startled when his mind was so relaxed. “Oh-uh, yeah…I’m fine…this shower’s perfect.”

Letting out a relaxed sigh, he did a quick once over with the soap before shutting off the water and wrapping himself in a towel. He hoped he didn’t seem like a killer to his new friend… Before long he was changing back into his mangled clothes from the lake. He didn’t mind that they were tattered, it didn’t bother him.

“Umm.. For being late? Also what stealing thing are you talking about exactly??” Stiles inquired as he took the hoodie from her, his tone utterly confused.

She pulled up the original texts, turning her wrist to show him her phone screen. “This one? Where you accused me of stealing your hoodie — which smells of dog by the way — for no good reason?”

It didn’t actually smell of dog, it smelled of Stiles, which she kind of liked. But she wasn’t telling him that.
