         [      A night in the frigid confines of a basement freezer
                 meant no  sleep.  Which  meant  napping  in  class.
                 No wonder he was failing chemistry. He’s out. In a
                 slumber  so  profound  that  he  does not  hear  the
                 dismissal      bell       sounding       around      him.      ]

“Hey. Hey, hon, you need to wake up now.”

[ Her voice was soft, and she brushed her hand against his shoulder. The boy was clearly exhausted, but if he didn’t wake up he might get locked in. She’d just come by the school to see about borrowing a book from the library that the university didn’t have, but she couldn’t just leave him there like that. ]

“Come on, chiyu, wake up.”
