She gave a soft chuckle. “First you say you wish peace and quiet, and then you wish me to talk to you.” Her smile was a little wistful. “This is the farthest I’ve ever been from home before. I’m not sure how I feel. Or what tomorrow will be like.”
“I want to talk to you, sure — I just don’t want you to argue with me when I’m trying to make your life easier and more comfortable,” Isaac pointed out and then returned the smile, nodding slowly in understanding. “That makes sense, of course. But you won’t be alone — no matter what happens, I just want you to know that.”
She nodded, short and sharp, and ran her free hand along the bedcovers. “I’d really rather not think about it any more.” She glanced up at him, and down again. “Maybe you could distract me?”
