“Oh, good grief.” She shook her head. “You should definitely be there for him. Trust me, I’ve been there too. Just letting people know that you are there if they want you, it can make a huge difference.” She thought about the number of times when that was /all/ she could do. Sometimes, being an empath sucked; she was capable of just fixing people, but knew that in the long run that it wasn’t going to be a real solution. People had to find their own strength.

“I doubt he’ll open the door to me, Summer. Especially me of all people.” Xavier shook his head but then sighed afterwards. “Yeah, but… I’ll try anyway. You’re probably right.” Full of wisdom wasn’t she?

“Why ‘you of all people’? Look, it doesn’t even matter if he takes you up on it — what matters is offering. If this is someone you care about, then you let them know, and the rest is in their hands.” Summer’s expression went distant. “You can’t save people from their own pain, all you can do is hold their hands if they let you.”

“Ooh, flattery will get you everywhere.” Summer winked. “It’s a good thing I’m in here alone, my ego will need the space if you keep that up.” She gestured to the loveseat. “You’re welcome to hang around, I wasn’t doing anything important. Do you sing?”

Tony felt like laughing at her blatant suggestive words just then, not at all taking them seriously, to his surprise. But he played along nonetheless and kept his laughs aside; he wasn’t exactly very keen to think hard about why he didn’t feel at ease with it all of the sudden. With a smile, he responded, “Yeah? That easy?”

He proceeded to follow her suggestion, taking a seat right beside her, and not thought it wasn’t needed to say anything about her ego comment. He felt the need to tell her about his but he decided he’d let her see that for herself. Keep it as a surprise for later; people liked that, didn’t they? “Hm, yeah. Used to be in a choir, to be honest. Girls’ choir. They were quite welcoming and open to have me there.

Summer didn’t bother to respond to his first comment with anything other than a slightly bent smile. Let him think what he liked; he didn’t mean it seriously, which meant it wasn’t worth pursuing. A bit of a shame, really. Celibacy wasn’t all it was cracked up to be.

“Liked your soprano, did they?” He was pretty clearly trying to shock her, get some kind of reaction; two could play at that game. Looking him over, she added, “I assume that wasn’t that long ago.”

“Calm down Summer” he tells her, chewing on the inside of his cheek. “I was kidding, and believe me if I was threatening you you would know about it. I know for a fact I have no business being insecure in my relationship, and I am not as such.”

She raises her eyebrows, an amused smile curving her lips. “But you felt the need to come over to tell me not to touch Merlin.” Reaching up, she pats his cheek. “Go away, Mordred. Go play with Merlin, and enjoy being in love.”

Leave me here to my loneliness, watching you.

Mordred presses his lips into a firm line, choosing to ignore her comment. “Good. “

“Sweetheart, let me make something completely clear to you. That boy is so tied up in you it is not even funny. Even if I was interested in poaching, it wouldn’t happen, because he would look at me cross-eyed and explain to me how I’m not you. So don’t come over all threatening at me like somehow you’re insecure in this relationship, because you’ve got no business being so.”
