“No, oww, hold on.” She turned her hands up, wincing at the shallow scrapes turning red. “When will I learn how to tumble properly and not catch myself with my hands.” Though the marks weren’t deep, there were a number of scraped places, including both knees and the top of her foot, and the stinging was sharp enough to make her vaguely nauseous.

At Summer’s request, Robert kept his hands to himself for the time being, his eyes scanning her body to check the various areas she had injured in the fall. “Nothing seems all that bad. Plus, I’m pretty sure no one falls with grace. Unless they’re too proud of themselves.” He wanted to get her to her feet, but the facial expression she sported had him think otherwise. “Do you think you’ll live, or should I call an ambulance?” Humor. Humor usually helped the situation from being too dire.

“I didn’t say grace,” she corrected. “But I’m not much of a martial artist if I can’t fall properly.” A few more deep breaths and the nausea subsided, but just because she could, she put the back of one hand to her forehead. “Woe, I think I am dying,” she declaimed, exaggeratedly, and reeled sideways to lean on Robert.

“I know you didn’t, but I did.” Considering it was the best word he could think of, and he was trying to lighten the mood. “You’d have to be training for quite some time not to fall on your ass when falling off a bike. Makes you feel any better, I don’t fall correctly all the time.” What he didn’t mention was it wasn’t often. “Do I need to mention the injured ankle I got filming?” Course, right as he finished speaking, a laugh escaped him at Summer’s antics. Hey, she was only playing along with what he started.

“Would have been different if I’d fallen on my ass,” she muttered, looking at her hands again. She lifted her leg, flexing the knee, and winced slightly. “Well, I think I can keep going but maybe we better not ride all over after all. I’m sorry.” Gingerly, she put her hands down to push herself up. “Was there anything you wanted to do?”

“You said you didn’t want to rush,” she pointed out. “I did go for it, remember, and you turned me down.” She bit at her lip. “Does that mean I can have a kiss now?”

Now he was losing his mind. His old age must be catching up with him. “Yes, yes I did. I’m thinking I’m starting to lose my mind, or something along those lines.” The actor hummed to himself for a moment before replying. “I don’t see why not.” Without waiting for a response, he leaned forward, capturing Summer’s lips in a small kiss; not too quick, or too passionate, just something good to start off with to at least express his feelings correctly.

Summer tried to chase his mouth for a second when he pulled away, before dropping back off her toes. She gave him a shy, very pleased smile, and wormed her way into his arms.

“I bet you didn’t expect that until later. I think it was about damn time. I just think we were both at such a distance- no, wait, that was my fault actually. Forget I said that.” With Summer sneaking herself into his arms, Robert wrapped them around her, a small smile on his face.

“Sometimes you talk too much,” she said complacently. “There are better things to do with your mouth, as you’ve discovered.”

“Did you just joke about putting my arm back after you tear it off? I may be one hell of an amazing actor, but I’ll have you know it won’t be as easy as you think to play certain roles with only one arm. Plus the image isn’t all that wonderful either.” With that shove against his back, Robert pretended to stumble a bit, fixing his glasses into place. “I’m going, I’m going. No need to shove.” With a quick smile and wave of his hand, Robert got busy, filling out the paperwork and snatching himself up a bike for the day. He’d have to admit it had been some time since he had ridden, that’s for sure. Before long, he was back at Summer’s side, bike at his side. “Just around the park, you said?”

“Unless you wanted something different.” She swung her leg over the bike, balancing precariously on her tiptoes. “You were the one who suggested Central Park.” With a nudge, she got the front pedal into place and pushed off, wheeling in a wide circle around Robert before striking back down the way she’d come. There were more than enough tangled paths just in the southernmost part of the park to keep them busy for an hour or so.

She pedaled a little harder, intending to sweep back around to him, and accidentally shot herself off the path. Trying to recover, she jackknifed the bike, tangled her feet in the body trying to dismount, and ended up in an awkward, skin-scraping sprawl on the pavement, breathing sharp and fast. Somewhere in the midst of landing, she said, “Shit. Oww.”

“That doesn’t mean we have to spend all day in Central Park. The city awaits too.” Robert watched as Summer pedaled off on her bike, seeming to almost be mocking him a bit. It didn’t take long for the actor to take his seat on his own bike, going off after her.

Though the slight excitement was short lived as Robert watched as Summer went straight off the path, sending herself careening into the pavement, an act that had Robert ditching his own bike, letting it fall straight to the ground as he rushed over to Summer’s side. “Are you okay? Here, at least let me help you up…”

“I agree that assuming isn’t the best thing to do, and perhaps I’m at fault for that too. So I apologize. When it comes to me though, you don’t have to hold back. At all. Trust me.” There was the smile he couldn’t quite hold back. “Better keep thoughts in your head. If you want everything, why not go for it?”

“I wanted my hands on you?” Robert shook his head, waving his hand absent-minded in the air. “You know, as well as I do, that you were the one who wanted your hands on me. Or, wanted me to put my hands on you. Either way.” It was a joke she made, but Robert couldn’t help himself. He usually tried to be the one with the last laugh as far as he was concerned. “Alright, alright, lead the way, just make sure not to pull my arm out of the socket while doing so. I kind of need it for my career.”

“I’ll put it back!” she protested. “But you aren’t the actor I think you are if you can’t get around the loss of an arm.” They didn’t have far to go, so she left her bike propped up while she led him to where they could see the bike rental place. Going behind him, Summer gave a little push. “Go on, I have to get mine back.”

“I did? Oh, wait, right, I did. And, you know, I don’t necessarily ask people out. That’s too normal for me. I figured with the fact we are always taking these little pieces of time with each other, I was sure I didn’t have to ask.”

“It’s nice to be asked. Sometimes a little normal is good, you know. At this point, I just don’t want to assume; I’d rather hold back and not get hurt.” Very quietly, “You’ve certainly persuaded me I’m deserving, so I want everything.”

Summer shrieked a smothered giggle when he picked her up. “Looks to me,” she told him, looking down, “like you just wanted your hands on me.” Utterly impudent now, in spite of the pink tingeing her cheekbones, she pulled him along. “I know exactly where. So come on!”

“I wanted my hands on you?” Robert shook his head, waving his hand absent-minded in the air. “You know, as well as I do, that you were the one who wanted your hands on me. “I’m an actor. That’s how it goes. Also, it’s not my problem I don’t have a cell number for you. Or even a house number. That would make contacting you that much easier. Also, yes; let it be known that I do consider us to be dating. I thought you already knew.”

I’m bending over backwards here to — uh — shit, Robert, I don’t even know. I’m trying to respect your ‘go slow’ instead of just shoving you into a chair and kissing you senseless.

“But you’re acting as if this will never happen within our lifetimes. This is why I said what I did. Plus, I’m pretty sure I couldn’t go years at a time without having sex. Just so you know.”
