Rather than reply at first, she wrapped him in a projection of her love for him: warm and safe and sweet, fierce to protect him from pain. “Je t’amie, my wolf,” she whispered. “Je t’amie.”
Trembling with the force of the emotion rising from her in waves, Isaac beamed and curled closer against her, pressing his lips to the side of her neck. “Moi aussi.”

She snuggled closely in his arms, head against his shoulder, sighing blissfully. “Because you love me.”
“Because I love you.” He grinned and pressed a kiss to the top of her head, cheeks staining pink at the admission. “You…um…love me too, right?”

“You’re incorrigible,” she teased, looking up at him with a laugh in her eyes. “Why do I keep you?”
“Because I’m yours?” He grinned and nuzzled their noses together, those three little words resting on the tip of his tongue.

“Oh, this again?” She laughed and poked him, looking for those ticklish spots. “I still don’t see what you see.” Her voice dropped. “Especially now.”
He squeaked and batted at her hands, frowning as he tried to wriggle away from her. “Don’t even try it. And you’re beautiful, okay? You’re my Summer…my amazing Summer.”

“What did you do, grow a foot in a year or something?” she teased, leaning into his hands. Pressing a kiss to a freckle on his neck, she added, “Love you the way you are now.”
“Pretty much – the same thing happened to my brother too; must be a Lahey thing.” He chuckled and squeezed her sides, unable to stop touching her. “Yeah? Thank you – you’re pretty damn perfect yourself.”

“Were you all legs back then too?” she inquired, dodging the topic of just how bossy Helios was, or what she had thought when they met.
“Even worse – I was so damn skinny because it was before I’d gotten properly into Lacrosse – I looked like a newborn colt trying to walk or something half the time.” He snickered and ran his hands down her sides once more.

“Awkwardness,” she snickered. “You’re never awkward.” Burying her face into his shoulder, she muttered, “I think I fell for you the moment I saw you following Helios. I just tried to ignore it.”
“You missed out on my early teenage years, lucky you.” He grinned and pressed his face into her hair, smiling at her following words. “Yeah? It’s not like I had much of a choice – your damn cat is so bossy.”

Turning so she could sit sideways in his arms, she bopped her hand against his face. “I don’t remember any charm when we met, were you saving it up? Pretending to be Eugene when you were secretly Flynn Rider all along?”
“Yeah, pretty much – I wanted to wow you with my awkwardness and shy nature, get you to fall for me and then show the true Isaac later on.” He chuckled into her neck, rolling his eyes in exasperation as he trailed his fingers down her ribs.

That made her laugh again, breathlessly, covering her face with both hands. “You’re going to do those jokes, seriously? Now? While you’re doing that to me?”
“Yep.” He grinned against her neck, shaking with laughter as he tugged her a little closer into his arms. “There’s no good time for my bad jokes, so I just offer them up whenever. It’s all part of the Isaac charm, you see.”

Summer shivered again, feeling like her skin crinkled with the way her nerves reacted. “Liar,” she muttered. “Oh god.” She squirmed under the inexorable teasing and the gentle strength of his hold.
“Pants on fire.” He nibbled on her earlobe and splayed his hands out across her rib cage, burying his face in her hair and inhaling. “And you can call me Isaac.”
That made her laugh again, breathlessly, covering her face with both hands. “You’re going to do those jokes, seriously? Now? While you’re doing that to me?”
