“Excuse me, Miss, what are you doing in the castle? I’ve never seen you before, so you can’t be one of the servants.”
“I — oh — what? I’m just, uh, I — ” Summer blushed and looked down. “I was leaving something for one of the knights. Sir Mordred?”
“The blushing sort of gave it away,” he teased, oblivious to Summer’s thoughts. “Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone. Unless you want me to, but something tells me that you don’t.” Now that the threat of, well, threat was gone, Kay relaxed into his usual attitude.
She covered her face with her hands, feeling the colour climb up into her face again. “It’s not exactly a /secret/,” she mumbled, “but I truly don’t want him to get into trouble. I just … ” Summer peeked through her fingers. “I just want to do things that make him happy.”
Kay nodded and smiled. “That’s understandable, but don’t forget to keep yourself out of trouble as well. Some of the others might have been more than happy to arrest you for suspicious behavior.”
“But then I would tell the truth, and the evidence would back me up,” she pointed out. “Are the dungeons so very bad, that I should fear to spend a night in them while I am innocent?”
Sir Kay of Camelot
Kay is a knight of Camelot and King Arthur’s adoptive brother. He’s been there for Arthur from the…BEST
((*screeches* What are you doing?!))
I’m incorriging all the Merlinians who also follow me to follow this you.
((You are a madwoman.))

“I — oh — what? I’m just, uh, I — ” Summer blushed and looked down. “I was leaving something for one of the knights. Sir Mordred?”
“It would be a surprise to him,” he offered. “You can trust us to keep it secret. Well, you can trust me, anyway.” He bowed to her in return, not caring that she didn’t seem to be nobility, and replied, “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Summer. My name is Kay. So, is it safe to assume that you and Sir Mordred are together?”
“Oh dear. Am I really so obvious?” And here she’d thought she was being at least a little discreet. She didn’t know how the King might feel about a serious relationship between one of his knights and a foreign noblewoman.
Then again, slipping into the castle by night and leaving gifts wasn’t exactly the height of discretion when she kept getting caught, was it? She was truly horrid at sneaking apparently, within-doors anyway. A forest, now, there she could slip about with ease — or at least more ease.
At least when Mordred caught her, it was because he was using his magic. That made it a little better, didn’t it?

“I — oh — what? I’m just, uh, I — ” Summer blushed and looked down. “I was leaving something for one of the knights. Sir Mordred?”
“It’s not as much of a surprise then,” she muttered unhappily. Sighing, she offered a curtsey, one hand over her heart. “I am Summer, Sir Knight.”
“It would be a surprise to him,” he offered. “You can trust us to keep it secret. Well, you can trust me, anyway.” He bowed to her in return, not caring that she didn’t seem to be nobility, and replied, “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Summer. My name is Kay. “I — oh — what? I’m just, uh, I — ” Summer blushed and looked down. “I was leaving something for one of the knights. Sir Mordred?”
Kay nodded and asked, “And what was this something?” He didn’t like having to treat strangers coldly, especially since the woman’s blush made her seem like less of a threat, but he would do whatever he had to to protect the castle, his home.
She fidgeted with her skirts. “J-just some fruit. As a surprise?”
“Alright, and do you have this fruit with you, or is it already in his chambers?”
Her quick glance at the door gave away her answer before she opened her mouth. “I — it’s already there. I promise, it’s nothing bad, only I … ” She trailed off, blushing harder.
His face softened slightly as he replied, “I wish that I could take your word for it, but I’m going to have to check it. I’m sorry.” He honestly was sorry that he had to do this, but a stranger sneaking around late at night was incredibly suspicious. What if the fruit was poisoned?
Kay quietly slipped into the other knight’s chambers and used the moonlight shining in through the window to locate the fruit. He picked them up and checked the surfaces for any punctures, cuts, or unusual material that could indicate that poisoned blades could have put poison inside or that poison was smeared on the outside. To his relief, the fruits were whole and safe as far as he could tell. He sighed and made his way to the door, hoping to slip out without Sir Mordred noticing.
Summer fidgetted miserably in the corridor, certain that if she tried to slip off, back to the lower town, the knight would only come after her, suspicious. Or send other knights after her, none of whom would be her beloved Mordred. It would be terrible, and then Mordred would tease her for inadequate sneaking again.
Briefly she considered using her magic on the tall knight, but just as quickly dismissed it. That would be suspicious too, even if her eyes didn’t flash golden and she was very careful. Maybe if she enlisted him in her cause? He seemed like he might be receptive to the plight of young lovers …
Kay stepped out into the hallway and silently shut the door behind himself, sighing in relief. If he’d been caught, explaining the situation would have been a bit awkward. He turned to Summer and smiled, “Well, it looks like you were telling the truth. The fruit was safe.” He sobered slightly and stood up straighter. “The next time you want to leave someone a gift in the middle of the night, I would recommend letting one of the knights or guards know ahead of time. Now, may I ask what your name is?”
“It’s not as much of a surprise then,” she muttered unhappily. Sighing, she offered a curtsey, one hand over her heart. “I am Summer, Sir Knight.”
