“So it is —”
She grabs his hand and tugs. “Come on!”
Mordred groaned, “do I have to?”
“But it’s snow!” Summer makes the most innocent possible face.

The young soldiers head snapped up from his knees, startled by the sudden intrusion, quickly wiping his eyes – although he doubted it would matter. No one could tell the difference between water and tears. “N-nothing, why?”
“It’s exactly that that makes me think it.” She rubs her hands together, fingers twisting and knotting around each other. “You can only carry so much. One day you’ll break. You think you have to be strong and alone and not tell anyone, that you’ll seem weak if you let anyone else see, but that’s not how it works. The hardest thing is letting someone in. I’m just saying, it doesn’t have to be me, but someone. Merlin. You love him, you trust him.”
Please don’t let me fail someone else.
He tongued his cheek, removing the towel from his head. “I can handle it, thank you, Summer,” he tells her, “if I need help I’ll talk, not before.”
“Because I didn’t just find you crying in the shower,” she snaps, throwing up her hands. “And clearly not for the first time. For fuck’s sake, Mordred! Just — god!” She wants to say more, but frustration robs her of the words. Instead she whacks a fist against the wall and stalks out.

“Then maybe it’s time you started. You’re not him. You lock things up inside, pretend to everyone that things are fine and nothing bothers you, and then you do this. Please tell me you at least talk to Merlin. You can’t keep going on like this.” She tugs the shower curtain for emphasis.
“Not to be rude,” he begins, getting up, wrapping the towel around his waist as he goes, “but it’s none of your business what I do behind closed doors.” Mordred slips past her, walking out into the hall and grabbing another towel, “I’ll do as I please, Merlin doesn’t need to know.”
“You are tearing yourself apart on the inside.” Summer speaks very quietly, because what she wants to do is get up and shake him until he sees sense. “I don’t want to have to come tearing in here one day because you decided it hurt too much to go on.” She sighs, and looks down at her hands. “Look, here’s the thing. I haven’t been there, but I don’t get to choose knowing about you being there. So I know what it’s like.”

“You know, while you were gone, Merlin and I went through so much ice cream,” she says, apparently irrelevantly. “He missed you so much, and I don’t think he felt like anyone else really understood that. He would just talk, about anything, and I would listen.” She steps past him, and shuts off the water. “If he could talk to me, you can too.” The last words are quiet in the sudden silence, and Summer sits on the edge of the tub.
For some reason, that fact seemed to calm him, but not enough. “That’s probably why he got sick, idiot,” he mutters, pushing his hair back from his face. At her comment about Merlin talking to him he lifts his gaze, his look hardening. “I’m not Merlin, just in case you haven’t noticed, Summer. I don’t talk.”

“Uh-huh.” Summer bends a very sceptical look on him. “Mordred Lot, if you don’t start telling me the truth you are going to regret it.” She reaches up and wipes away a drop from his cheek, then licks it. “You normally bathe in salt water?”
A frown etches itself into his forehead as she reaches out and touches his face. “Cleans my pores” he murmurs, looking away from her again, not having reached up to turn the water off yet.

She puts her hands on her hips. “Nobody sits on the floor of the shower like that unless something’s wrong.” Glancing around, she picks up a towel and holds it out. “Come on.”
”I fell asleep,” he tells her. A blatant lie, and one no doubt that she would see right through but he knew she wouldn’t understand, none of them would so that’s why he didn’t tell anyone about anything. For a moment Mordred look at the towel before reaching forward to take it, “thanks.”

She shoved at him. “What do you think? I /know/ these things, and I tell you, none of it. It was as if he expected — ” She flourished a hand, “this.” She frowned and started nibbling on a fingernail. “I wonder why?”
Mordred arched a brow. “To find you in bed with me or to find you in bed with someone? I’m so confused,” he mutters.
“To find us together,” she clarified. Getting up on her knees, she stretched out and snagged his shirt, piling it on his head. “There will be no answers here. Help me to dress? Maybe there will be answers at dinner.”
Summer paused in the doorway, grinning. “You two are giving me cavities.”
