“Oh, you did now? Is it sweet?” he asked innocently.
“I think you’ll like it. Come here and unwrap it.”
A mischievous grin danced across his lips and he took a step towards her. “I love unwrapping presents.” He was slipping into his predatory mode as his eyes started to blacken.
She backed up a step, holding her linked wrists out toward him. “My safeword is moonlight,” she murmured, holding back her smile.
Summer’s feet hit the floor with a thump, Tony’s hands around her waist. “Ohgod.”
Tony stared at her, seeming only mildly perplexed. But really, this wasn’t the strangest magic he’d seen at this point. “You know,” he mused, “this was not what I was expecting this evening.”
Her eyes were a little wild. “Me, either. I — think I need to sit down now. Thank you?”
He went ahead and scooped her up, bridal style. “Better?”
She put both arms around his neck, hiding her face in his shoulder. “That was … very, very strange.”
“I was a rabbit, once,” he volunteered, though it was unclear if he was attempting to commiserate or if it had just occurred to him, or both.
“Did it just wear off, or did you have to make something happen?” She sounded subdued.
