“Shan’t. Now let me /see/.” She brushed her fingers over his arm and interposed a painblock.

“Just-” It seemed like it would be impossible to say anything to that woman and she obeys him. Even if she was being careful with his arm, he still pulling it to himself. “I’ll be fine, just don’t…”

“Oh, of course, it will be fine, hurting that much.” Her tone was sharp, scolding. “Men. Honestly. You can either let me see it, or I’ll call someone more official to handle this.”

“Shhh, just relax, let me see.”

“No, no. Get away, lass…” He pulled his injured arm only to embrace it as he closed his eyes, trying not to think about the pain he felt.

“Shan’t. Now let me /see/.” She brushed her fingers over his arm and interposed a painblock.

“I meant the ship, actually, but your eyes also.”

“Oh,” He rolled his eyes, but forced a short smile on his lips in that same second. “I know, she’s quite beautiful.”

Summer’s mouth twisted. The same. Always the same, always people complained of being read the most when they were most transparent. She pressed her lips together briefly, then said, “I was looking for a ship. And a ship’s captain.”

“And for what exactly you need a ship, my ship?” it seemed like the mysterious woman was testing the captain’s patience. A foolish thing to do, because Killian didn’t have his best days anyway.

“I’m looking for someone to take me to Avalon.” Let him figure out from there why it was /his/ ship. He didn’t look stupid; it shouldn’t be hard. And maybe the fact that she was looking for him, for his ship, would smooth some of those prickles.

“I meant the ship, actually, but your eyes also.”

She turned a faintly sceptical gaze on him. “You didn’t look impressed. You looked annoyed.” Deliberately, then, she scanned him up, and down, lingering only briefly on the hook. “You’re very handsome, yes.”

“You don’t know me yet, darling. Don’t you try to read my mind or eyes, huh?” He blinked an eye with his ironic tone on the voice and then crossed his arms over the chest, arching an eyebrow as he was studying that woman. “What are you doing here? On my ship?”

“You … preferred the compliment only to your eyes? I thought sailors near worshipped their ships.”

“The last thing women notice when they’re with me is my ship. I’m just impressed, lass.”
