The Problem With The Big Bang Theory…

I’ve been meaning to post something about The Big Bang Theory for a while now but it’s taken me ‘till now to really understand what it is about the show that makes me uncomfortable. I’m not exactly a believer in the whole “only write about the things you like, don’t trash the things you don’t” trend which seems to be plaguing comments sections in negative articles lately, but I wanted to be able to really examine why I don’t like TBBT rather than just slagging it off. My main questions being – Why don’t I like this anymore? Why do I feel uncomfortable watching it? And why do I get so annoyed when I see people sing its praises online? The thing which really sparked this post was seeing a raft of comments on Facebook, below the last round of voting in Television Without Pity’s Tubey Awards, claiming The Big Bang Theory to be “the best comedy on TV”. This made me angry so instead of posting an impulsive comment calling out their bad taste which I’d probably regret later, I decided to really analyse why seeing comments like that made me so mad when previously, although I didn’t really love the show, I’d never considered myself as disliking The Big Bang Theory.
Hell, I even have season one on dvd, it’s sitting right between Battlestar Galactica and Bored To Death in my alphabetised collection.
And here, I think, is where my problem with The Big Bang Theory lies…
This is a good write up of why I too dislike The Big Bang Theory. When customers ask me if I watch it, I tell them that the show seems to be written by someone who doesn’t actually know any nerds but only knows stereotypes.

okay this got a lot more reblogs than expected and a lot of people are skeptical so here is the source – the writer of loki’s new comic solo series, which is also loki’s first full solo series (therefore a very big deal) and given that he intends to write loki’s queerness in as more than just subtext, it is entirely canon. it’d be very much appreciated if you could reblog this version of the post so people actually believe me and are as happy as they should be about this.

Never mind this – I’d buy City of Heroes, the server space to run it for everyone who wants to come back, a HELL of an ad campaign to announce to the world that it’s back, a goddamn ticker tape parade and mega-bash for all the Paragon Studios employees plus the salaries they DESERVE for the next 10 years, and have enough left over to hold the mother of all HeroCons AND help out anyone who needs to get there.
Why?
Because our home has been shut down a hell of a lot longer than 16 days.
And this would be accomplished by buying NCSoft, not just the CoH IP, and laying off all of the executives. Or so would be my hope.

ALL OF THIS. Okay. I fucking LOVE the Snow Queen as a fairy tale and am already pretty damn enraged about it being gutted and people want me to be upset they were going to to make a character a different race? What the entire fuck, people?
Maybe, maybe, if they maintained the original story (which btw, excellent story of a female protagonist, being aided – and hindered in a case – pretty much exclusively by other women in her search to save her best friend who only happens to be male and I am SO MAD they added some romance bullshit) which takes place in the very northern parts of Scandanavia, I’d at least understand some of the setting concerns. But at this point? It’s basically as much based on the The Snow Queen as the Texas Chainsaw Massacre is based on a true story. They could move everyone to Pluto and make them GREEN at this point.
