“Well, yes. Why? Does it matter?”

“I was promised chocolate, I think, if I came in?”

“You were indeed. Do you have a last name by any chance?”

image

“Rainault. Going to look me up?”

image

“Why does my name matter?”

“I might be,” he chuckled, rolling his weight to his other foot. “It’s mainly for my dad. He’s very …odd about having new people in his home.”

image

“That seems fair enough. I’m curious what you’ll find out. Dads can be protective — who’s your dad, then?”

“I what now? Say that again, only in English this time.”

“You are going to get sick if you stay out there. Why don’t you come in?”

“Kay. It’s not really that cold out here, though.”

image

“I have hot chocolate. Or just chocolate. I have both.”

image

“I’m also really awkward.”

image

“Ah! Chocolate, you have lured a wild Summer.”

“Is that your name?”

Toni chuckled and stepped up to one of the private elevators, punching in a passcode before letting it scan his hand. “The next five are reserved for R&D, the private labs and what have you. We live near the penthouse with the rest of the Avengers, hence why I’m scanning my hand. This way no one can get past the 15th floor.”

“I take it you aren’t concerned about folk who can fly,” she snarked. “Still, the security is impressive. In fact, everything so far is impressive. Including the egos.” She winked at Toni.

“I have my suit for that, as well as my father,” he replied, stepping in when the elevator opened and shifting the suitcase in his hands. “Which reminds me, if you try anything, I won’t hesitate to blast your ass to kingdom come.”

She rolled her eyes. “You can have fun trying. If I try anything, I’ll throw /myself/ off the tower.” She pointed a finger at him. “Remember, you invited me in.”

“You’d be surprised how many guests of ours turn out to be evil,” Toni replied, giving her a small smile. “JARVIS, penthouse suite, please.”

The AI flickered on. “Of course, Mr. Stark. Shall I inform your father?”

“Sure,” he chuckled, glad JARVIS was keeping up with the lie.

She sighed, with a small chuckle at the end. “Well, I don’t know that I can do much to make you trust me except be myself.” She held up her hands, both empty. “Nothing up my sleeves.”

“Only ten floors? That’s impressive organization.” She already knew Tony Stark lived on the top floor. On the other hand, the evidence for Toni’s association with Mr Stark was mounting. The kid might actually /be/ Stark’s son. Wouldn’t that be a hell of a thing.

Sometimes, when I’m lying in bed trying to sleep, I think about you. I wonder how you’re doing. If you think of me at all. Why you shut me away. (I’m selfish, I have those thoughts.)

I think of you. And I miss you. The way you made me smile. The way you write. The little things you shared about your life. We don’t say much about our lives often here, amongst the roleplay. Not obviously, anyway. But things slip through, and I know life is no easier for you than it is for me,

You made my life a little easier, and I miss that. (I’m selfish that way.)

I never got to say goodbye; you just disappeared. It’s a hole in my heart. I made a little space for you, and you aren’t there anymore. So I miss you.
