The bartender raised an eyebrow at the girl as she set a box on the counter of his bar. “You’re that Summer girl, right?” he asked absently, and then nodded as he stepped away to find his employer. Several minutes later, he returned, “Vex’ll be out momentarily.”
And several moments later, the Mesmer appeared, walking over to where Summer stood at the bar. He was dressed in his finest. “‘Ello, Precious,” he greeted, “Ya called?”
Vex had taken a seat again on the leather couch, cracking open the bottle. At her question, he shrugged, “Probably would, but I ‘aven’t ‘ad a good beer in months. Seemed worth it.” He didn’t drink beer often, had to be in the right mood, but when he did, it was expensive and delicious. “There’s wine in the fridge too, if you were interested,” he added as an after-thought.
Her eyes glittered with her low laugh. “I’m going to get drunk on you.” Summer held up the spoon in one hand and the knife in the other, then put them behind her back. “You have to buy them from me.”
Vex shrugged at that, “Fair ‘nough.” He watched as she tucked the knife and spoon behind her back, raising an eyebrow in curiosity. “And just ‘ow do you suggest I do that, Precious?” he asked in a purring voice.
She put one knee on the leather beside him. “You must have something you can offer in trade.”

“Stuck it in the mini-fridge,” he told her absently, going over to open the fridge’s door and take out the cake’s box. He set it on the coffee table and grabbed a beer for himself out of the fridge before kicking its door shut.
“Fork, knife, fork, knife, spoon, spoon,” she sing-songed to herself, rummaging through drawers. “Aha!” Triumphantly, she held up a knife and a spoon, turning to Vex. “Beer with red velvet cake?” she asked. “I would have thought wine would go better.”

Vex laughed against her throat again, kissing her skin once more before moving away. “Cake sounds good,” he told her, bobbing her lightly on the nose, “and then I’m sure we’ll find something else to do with our time.”
Slowly, pausing to nip at his nose back, she untangled herself from their cosy sprawl. “Where did you even put the cake? I didn’t see.”

The Mesmer laughed softly, hot breath brushing over Summer’s throat as he nuzzled her. “Hmm, up to you, I’m ‘onestly just glad you’re ‘ere to begin with,” he told her sincerely, smiling against her skin.
“Such flattery,” she teased, though her voice jittered. “Keep that up and it will be spices for sure, and here I was thinking maybe we should have some cake first.” Summer lowered her voice a little. “To keep our strength up.”

Vex smiled, enjoying this side of Summer. “Alright, alright, love,” he agreed, kissing her neck and leaving an absent bite against the skin, “M’love you,” he said again, kissing over the bite-mark as his arms tightened around her, protectively possessive.
“Mmm, I know,” she murmured back, arching against him a little. “Do you want sweets now, or spice?” They could go back to simply being curled together like two lazy cats, but somehow she didn’t quite think that was going to happen. Not if he kept on kissing her neck right there, which he knew perfectly well would make her wild.

The Mesmer shrugged his shoulders, “It doesn’t matter, really, it just gets on my nerves sometimes, Precious.” He smiled and kissed her back, hugging her close to his chest, “I love you too, Summer.” He paused, lips moving to ghost over her neck affectionately, “And you’d know, even if you didn’t realize it as that.” The control. She enjoyed it during their ‘play time’, but it was feeding nonetheless, despite her probably not considering it that.
“Well, then,” she said, giving in to the glorious shudder that crawled up her spine, “unless you want to go knock them all silly for being so stupid, I hardly see why it matters. Eventually they’ll remember I’m not any more human, really, than they are.” She bared her teeth in a slash of a smile. “Even if they’re remembering it from inside a column of flame.”

Vex shook his head, biting back his annoyance, “Nothing, love. I’m just bloody sick of people thinking you’re just ‘ere to feed off of.” Curling closer to her, he sighed, “Bloody Fae.”
“What difference does it make? Unless it means they think they get a share of me too I’m not sure why it matters. I know how you feel. She turned his face to look into his dark eyes. “Maybe better than you do, sometimes. Vex, I love you. That’s what matters.” After a quick kiss, she smiled at him. “I’m not even sure I’d know if you fed on me.”

Her acknowledging ‘hmm’ broke into a laugh. “Your people don’t really celebrate this holiday?” That thought had been why she had come to Carpe Noctem. To find that he had planned to come to her was a lovely thing. Rather than letting him answer, she kissed him again with that thought.
Vex scrunched up his nose as she laughed at him, but was easily distracted by her kiss. Returning it for a moment, he smiled against her mouth before pulling back to reply, “Not particularly. Too many love-Fae that try to muck it up and get in the way.” He kissed her again with a shrug, but it was short-lived because the door to the room opened.
“Having fun with your pet, Vex?”
Breaking the kiss to growl, the Mesmer’s eyes turned to look at the Fae that had interrupted. ”She isn’t your concern. Now get out before I bloody—”
“Oh I’m sorry, did I interrupt your meal?”
“I-I don’t—just get out of ‘ere, you braggart!” He took control of the other male just long enough to make him step back and slam the door shut behind him, and then let out an irritated sigh.
Summer blinked up at him with one eyebrow lifted. “What was /that/ all about?”
