who: Summer, Loki (lost-prince-of-asgard), Arthur (prince-of-camelot), Tony (gadgeteerphilanthropist), Marie (adevalokidottir), Angela (domire-angela); any character those guys bring in; anybody else who feels like it

where: New York City, originating at Summer’s apartment a few blocks from Stark Tower and Central Park

when: 12 sept 2012

If your character is not normally in that timespace, it’s up to you to figure out how they get there.

Summer isn’t shy with her address or contact information. Assume you have it. Feel free to have your character drop by her apartment.

current events: 9/12 early morning – Summer told Loki, Tony, Arthur, and Marie that she had a meeting this morning with “folk who were interested in her”.

9/12 early evening – Summer sends a cry for help out with her empathy, but she can only reach the people she’s bonded to. She is not bonded to everyone on the above list.

The first person who really searches the bathroom will find a used hypodermic needle and syringe with a liquid residue.

The first person who contacts or has anything to do with SHIELD may contact or be contacted by Winter (twilightdaughter). Anyone who searches a database of superheroes or a SHIELD database will find that Winter is Summer’s twin sister and works for SHIELD.

current events:

Marie’s response | Tony’s response | Loki’s response | Arthur’s response

Marie and Angela meet

Marie checks in with Loki

current events:

Marie and Arthur meet and search the apartment

The notebook he finds is Summer’s poetry. Unfortunately, nothing useful there, though he might enjoy browsing it. The fact that her books are everywhere indicates that there’s been a lot of combat — better search the bathroom.

The first person who really searches the bathroom will find a used hypodermic needle and syringe with a liquid residue.

Tony seeks out Loki

Who Needs Shelter

Summer’s apartment is empty, gone still and silent without its mistress’ vibrant personality to fill it up. Though the clutter remains (books, movies, gadgets stacked and spread and piled haphazardly), it seems oddly forlorn.

The door is unlocked, though closed, and there are no cats, either, quartering what seems frighteningly like rubble for their mistress. Her phone lies abandoned on the kitchen counter, keyboard clicked open. A wan light flashes on and off, indicating messages, though the screen is dark. Beside it lies a neat paper, folded over and addressed ‘Marie’.

In fact, all the screens are dark, and there is no electronic hum nor indicator light on any of the various machinery. Her bed, tucked in the back bedroom, is half-made, with little sign of any body having been there the night before.

It is here, in the bathroom attached, that there is any sign Summer has done more than simply step out briefly — hairbrush on the floor, bottles knocked over, shower curtain torn down. More telling is a scorch mark on the tile, and the lingering odor of burnt hair.

[be aware of this, but do not reply yet. you will be expected to get in touch with the other roleplayers to find out what has happened to Summer. further messages will come to your askbox regarding what happens next.]

Oh. Right, well, I’m playing mahjong. But. I would feel better if she’d just let me talk to her. Apparently that’s not on her agenda for the night, however.

I know how that goes. I don’t like to let the sun set on my anger, so to speak, either. But … sometimes, you have to respect the other person’s need to have their sulk or frustration all the way out. Even if that totally goes against what you need. So … maybe write out some of the things you want to say, so you don’t forget them.

It’s a bit of an abstract concept compared to the way people think these days. But think of what motivates people to turn to magic in the first place. They feel a strong emotion, and want to do something about it.

*sips more tea* For me it was more a case of being chosen. The magic was /there/, waiting for me. There was rarely anything I wanted that badly. Emotions are *shrugs* simply the largest part of who I am.

*laughs* That’s true for everyone, isn’t it? We wouldn’t function as we do without emotion. What do you mean by being chosen. You never did explain to me what you were talking about with…knowing things about people that one time.

*laughing a little, holding up one hand* I can’t answer all of that at once! I’ll start with *aaaand managing to spill the tea* ooops. Shit. Guess I’m doing laundry after this wears off, too. Anyway … *sighs* I’m an empath. I can know what people feel.

Oh… Oh. Well. I guess that explains a lot, then. *walks over and takes the cup, bringing it back to the counter to refill and cool* Born that way, I imagine?

It’s hard to say. I didn’t do a spell, or become cursed, or anything like that, if that’s what you mean. It was just … something I realised I was capable of, and it took me a long time to put a name to it, or to really understand that there was more to what I knew and was doing than other people had. *flourishes a wrist* It got stronger, the older I got, and there’s some pretty strange … kinks in it. I end up bonding with people I care about, and then I always have a faint sense of them in the back of my mind. Which … carries its own problems.

There’s a reason for that, I think. *flips the book open and starts scritching with the pen* Emotion is at the base of everything. Start with having any emotion, say happiness, and add the intention of making something from it. That’s really the basis of all magic, down to the roots.

I never thought about it that way, really.

You? Not nice? *crooked grin* I simply don’t believe it. *pulls another book and a pen from a drawer* Would you be interested in runes or magics at all?

Magic, yes. Runes … never did much for me. I do more of my work with the laws of contamination and contagion, and sheer willpower.

I’ll admit, I’m a bit of a disappointment when it comes to runes. Directly, anyway. All I ever see in them are letters. Words and sentences. Words hold an immense magic of their own, though. That’s where my main focus with rune-work lies. That and sigils. They’re far more powerful than they’re given credit for. *passes a hand over the cup of tea* This should be cool enough now. *hands it to you gently*

*uses both hands to take it and sip carefully* Words have magic, that’s true, though I find that for me it’s the simple power of use where words work best. There’s so much … power in simple truths.

Yes, thoughtless seems like an accurate word. Do they not realize the amount of damage that a lack of coordination can do? *stirs a couple of brews, and flips the page of a book open on the counter*

*wry smile* In this case, I think it might have been on purpose. I /was/ taunting them, and I haven’t been generally nice of late. There are worse punishments, I suppose.
