why do I have this sinking feeling that Mordred, Merlin, Tony, and Xavier are all going to conspire to set Arthur and Summer up on a date?

” — well, no, you don’t really get to know who your neighbours are before you move in, Sam!” Summer laughs. “But I lucked out. I seem to have landed in a whole group of kindred spirits, it’s just a shame most of them are already paired off to each other. Seriously, it’s like incest or something.”
The people on the other side of the voice chat speak, and she grins and laughs again. “Fine, fine, I won’t use that word. But there are a lot of cute people here and I can’t touch! Merlin and Mordred are together, and let me tell you, I would be in that sandwich in a heartbeat. /Doc/ would be in that sandwich. I’m pretty sure Tony and Xavier are going out, too.” She sighs. “Yeah, I know, but there is one straight couple! … are you serious? I would go out with any of them in a heartbeat. Aithusa, Arthur — maybe not Sherlock. I’m not sure Sherlock has a libido.”

~o “This is it, boys, this is war – what are we waiting for?
Why don’t we break the rules already?
I was never one to believe the hype
Save that for the black and white
I try twice as hard and I’m half as liked,
But here they come again to jack my style.” ~o
Singing at the top of her theatrically-trained lungs, with the music almost as loud as she is.
Summer put her hands on her hips and surveyed the room. False spiderwebbing in all the corners, little dishes of snacks and nibbles on every table, orange, purple and white fairy lights strung about in place of the lamps, faintly spooky or hallowe’en music cued up on the computer … yes, it looked like everything was ready.
She put a hand to her chest, willing her heartbeat to slow down. Even if no one came, she had done good unpacking and cleaning and arranging everything, so it wasn’t a total waste. Doc sat by the door, pale-tipped tail wrapped around her feet, looking for all the world like she was ready to greet any guests instead of go darting off the moment some stranger came in.
Summer smiled and tightened the laces on her leather coat once more. Scooping up the little calico, she unlocked the door and opened it just an inviting touch.
Summer taped a note to each door on the hall.
Hallowe’en Party!
Come to [flat number] and meet your new neighbor!
Saturday, 8pm BYOB
She’d probably spend the night alone, twitching at every sound, and eat all the snacks out of nervousness, but hell, it was worth a try. And maybe the cute blond guy from a couple doors down would turn up. He’d seemed nice enough.
And I need to stop wanting to be part of the flatmate au. I am a bad person.
Tell me to stop, guys.
Merlin?
*looks up from the book he’s reading and smiles* Hey, Summer. What’s going on?
“It doesn’t matter, really … just something about how stupid someone was, and couldn’t they see that they weren’t going to get what they wanted, and how painful it was to watch that kind of thing. It wasn’t — I mean, the person I was talking to didn’t say it, it was someone else, someone I know they’re friends with — it doesn’t matter, Merlin.”
Summer, if it hurt you, then it matters. That was incredibly disrespectful, and you shouldn’t have to stand for it, even if they didn’t think you could hear it. Do you know who said it?
“It wasn’t — ” She flushed. “I don’t know the person who said it, I just know it was someone … I think he’s a knight.”
Merlin nodded. Alright. I may need to have a word with Arthur about his knights’ lack of respect, then.
“Merlin — please don’t. Just — it doesn’t matter. I’m not that important, really. After all, it’s not like they were wrong … ” She rubbed at her face, trying to hide the tears about to fall. “Really, they’re right, I — Gwaine isn’t going to — I mean, just — ” She stumbled to a stop, swallowing hard.
Summer Rainault shaded her eyes, glancing up at the sun. She was nearly to Camelot; in fact, she could see the castle’s towers rising in the distance. The heat was oppressive, and she nudged her mare to greater speed, hoping to at least generate a cooling breeze.
Absorbed in her thoughts, she didn’t pay much attention to the sounds around her until the several roughly dressed men had surrounded her. “Well hey, what’s this?” one of them growled, brandishing a knife at her. “Pretty girl, all alone, not a good thing.” Another one chuckled, a cruel sound.
“All your money, and quickly,” the one with the knife said, beckoning.
Summer twisted her mouth sideways. “Do I look to have money on me, you fool?”
